The Rise of Silver

The Rise of Silver

Silver’s price has risen to an 11-year high above $30, again putting silver in the spotlight. This blog looks at the value of silver in the U.S. and possible reasons for its increase in value.

Current World Events

Investors are continuing to buy up the price of silver and other precious metals as a hedge against the ongoing geopolitical instability caused by the ongoing crisis in the Middle East and Russia’s ongoing war on Ukraine. Investors generally look for safe-haven assets, like gold and silver, when there is a conflict risk.

Weakness of the Dollar

The U.S. dollar is under pressure to weaken as investors go forward with their predictions of interest rate reduction in response to weaker-than-expected April employment and inflation data released this month. This makes dollar-dominated commodities, including silver and gold, more affordable for overseas buyers.

In the long run, the metal will profit from rising industrial demand. The World Silver’s Survey study from the Silver Institute released last month predicted that this year’s industrial market for the commodity would increase by 9% due to the use of renewable energy. It predicts that the silver required to make solar panels will increase by 20% to 232 million ounces in 2024, while jewellery demand is expected to rise by just 4%.

Economic Uncertainty

There is a growing demand for safe-haven assets like gold and silver due to economic instability. Silver is frequently viewed as a more cost-effective substitute for gold, and a greater variety of investors find it more enticing due to its lower price point.

The fact that silver is a good store of value may also contribute to its price increase. Investors often resort to silver as a hedge against inflation when they believe the dollar’s value is declining. Prices have gone up as a result of this demand.

Industrial Demand

Silver’s price increase has also been attributed to increased industrial demand. It is used in many industrial applications, such as jewellery, electronics, and automobile parts. Silver’s supply cannot keep up with demand, which has caused prices to rise.

A mix of growing industrial demand, geopolitical concerns, and economic uncertainty is driving up the price, and this is something that we can expect to continue into the summer months.
