Meta shares surged after the IT giant announced a dividend payout, boosted permission for share buybacks, and produced a better-than-expected quarterly earnings report. The business reaffirmed its commitment to expanding its metaverse business and making investments in AI infrastructure. Read on to find out more about the recent rise in Meta stocks.
Dramatic Increase for Meta Shares
After breaking above an ascending triangle, Meta shares have seen a dramatic increase in trend. The stock’s previous record high is expected to serve as future price support during retracements. Facebook’s parent company, Meta Platforms (META), saw its shares soar more than 17% earlier this month. The Magnificent Seven member had reported better-than-expected fourth-quarter earnings on the strength of a rebound in ad sales and had declared its first-ever dividend payment in addition to authorising further stock buybacks.
March Payout
The $1 trillion software giant announced that it had approved an increase of $50 billion in its stock repurchase plan and would pay investors a dividend of 50 cents per share on March 26. To give investors their money back, publicly traded corporations usually use share buybacks in addition to dividend payments.
The business emphasised the metaverse and artificial intelligence (AI). According to the company’s earnings release, Meta founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg stated, “We’ve made a lot of progress on our vision for advancing AI and the metaverse.” Beyond this year, he continued, “We expect our ambitious long-term AI research and product development efforts will require growing infrastructure investments.”
The CEO of Meta announced on Instagram last month that the company intended to buy $9 billion worth of Nvidia (NVDA) chips this year to increase its artificial intelligence computing capacity. Despite the company’s entry into the metaverse, its Reality Labs segment lost $4.65 billion. However, robust Christmas sales of the company’s Quest VR headset helped the unit’s $1.1 billion in revenue beat analysts’ $804 million estimate. Regarding hiring, Zuckerberg stated he anticipates a small number of new hires in 2024, concentrating on staffing departments within the company that would see higher investment.
Since breaking above an ascending triangle, a chart pattern that denotes a continuation of the present trend, META shares have climbed sharply higher. It’s important to note Meta’s previous record high, reached in September 2021 at $384.
